About

Hi, I’m Delita Alvarez Piercy. I have always been inspired by nature. Ever since I was young, I would wander through fields enchanted by the beauty of nature. It is my quest to capture this beauty in all of my art, whether a religious Icon, the expression of a face in a portrait, a spacious landscape or a poem.

After raising my seven children in Bloomington IN, my husband Bob encouraged me to get my degree from Indiana University. Because I had worked as a freelance illustrator for most of my life, I chose to study Art. I graduated in 1982 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts.

In my early years, I worked as a freelance illustrator at St. Philip Neri Church, William H Block Company, the Gilbert and Sullivan Town Theatre of Bloomington and others. I have been commissioned for countless paintings of the Bloomington campus at Indiana University, and my work continues to be displayed at IU and in offices all over Bloomington. Over the years I have received awards for my landscapes in pastel, watercolor and oil painting. More recently, I have been exploring the techniques of classical religious Icon painting. You can glimpse a few of my religious paintings in the chapel of St. Paul's Newman Center and at St. Martha's Catholic Church. At St. Martha’s, I also served as a consultant in choosing the art and design for the renovation of the church.

Currently I reside in Temecula California with two of my daughters and my two cats. I enjoy working with plants, going for walks outside, creating art, writing poetry and journaling.
